According to The Washington Post, American hair loss suffers spend more than 3.5 billion dollars a year in an attempt to treat their hair loss. Unfortunately 99% of all products being marketed in the less than ethical hair loss treatment industry are completely ineffective for the majority of those who use them..

If you’re one of those individuals suffering from hair loss, check out the treatments and products featured in this article.

Many manufacturing companies are realizing the increased demands for hair loss products and so they launch different product lines in the market. The products for hair loss can be homeopathic, ayurvedic, or allopathic. The demand for hair loss treatments and products is still growing so you can expect more and more products to come in the future.

Each individual has a different hair type. By consulting a doctor, your hair type can be identified and the right hair loss treatment or product will be given to you.

If you’re not comfortable using the prescribed products like Rogaine, Dutasteride, and Propecia because of their possible side effects, you can use the herbal remedies available for hair loss treatments. Herbal hair loss treatment products are also available in commercial preparations so you can easily obtain them in the market. Some of the herbal products that you can use are Ginkgo Biloba, Saw Palmetto, Stinging Nettle, Pygeum, Green Tea, He Shou Wu, and Gotu Kola.

Pregnancy is normal among women and if you’re pregnant, you may have noticed hair loss taking place. This is part of being pregnant but you can use some hair loss products. Propecia is not advisable for pregnant women because this product can cause birth defects according to some clinical studies. So be careful in choosing your hair loss products. Try the herbal products because they don’t have many side effects and in particular Saw Palmetto is thought to work in a similar way to Propecia.

To those undergoing treatments like chemotherapy, hair loss is normal. Once you recover from your illness and chemotherapy is stopped, your hair will start to grow back. There are also other illnesses that can cause hair loss so be sure to ask you doctor about it.

Rogaine is popular among men. The drug is minoxidil which was originally used to treat hypertension. This product should be used everyday for several months. Some men also use Revivogen. This is a shampoo for hair loss that treats alopecia but there have been reports about unsatisfied customers.

Depending on your type of hair loss, treatments are available. If a medicine is causing your hair loss, your doctor may be able to prescribe a different medicine. Recognizing and treating an infection may help stop the hair loss. Correcting a hormone imbalance may prevent further hair loss.

Medicines may also help slow or prevent the development of common baldness. One medicine, minoxidil (brand name: Rogaine), is available without a prescription. It is applied to the scalp. Both men and women can use it. Another medicine, finasteride (brand name: Propecia) is available with a prescription.

Nioxin shampoo and conditioners.

If you have fine or thinning hair, you may want to consider the Nioxin family of hair products. These all-natural cleansers, conditioners, treatments and styling products are free of any drugs.

Nioxin can improve the hair’s health by cleansing the scalp’s skin, strengthening the hair follicle and energizing the cellular activity.

Nioxin has not been found to have any effect on DHT. However, by keeping the follicles healthy, these products may help delay hair loss. Because there are no side effects, the products can be used everyday.

Hair transplantation. Hair transplantation involves the relocation of plugs of skin from parts of the scalp containing active hair follicles to bald areas. A patient may need several hundred plugs — implanted 10 to 60 at a session. The transplanted hair may drop out, but new hair usually begins to grow from the transplanted follicles within several months.

Avodart, belongs to a class of drugs called 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors, which block the action of the 5-alpha-reductase enzymes that convert testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). The drug was approved by the FDA for the treatment of prostate enlargement in men in 2002.Avodart has not been approved for the treatment of hair loss, although physicians can use an approved medication in ways other than that it was specifically approved for. That said, the use of dutasteride certainly requires doctor supervision. Avodart is used mostly for men who have an enlarged prostate.

If your prostate is smaller, it will put less pressure on your urethra. AVODART has been shown to improve symptoms after 3 to 6 months, with continued improvement extending to 2 years, and this improvement can be maintained up to 4 years. By shrinking the prostate, it stops the symptoms associated with prostate enlargement from getting worse.

Like finasteride (the active ingredient in Propecia), dutasteride blocks the enzyme 5 alpha-reductase that converts testosterone to DHT (DHT causes hair loss). Unlike finasteride, which only inhibits the Type I form of the enzyme, dutasteride inhibits both the Type I and Type II forms. This combined effect lowers circulating DHT more with dutasteride than with finasteride, but also increases the incidence of side effects.

The Type II form of the enzyme (blocked by finasteride) is found predominantly in the hair follicle. The Type I form of the enzyme has been found in the scalp and sebaceous glands, but its exact role in hair growth has not been determined. It is felt that the ability of dutasteride to lower serum levels of DHT is what makes it a more potent medication in hair loss.

When considering the safety of dutasteride, one should consider several facts. It acts on other parts of the body besides the hair follicle. Unlike finasteride, where families that had a deficiency of the Type II 5-alpha reductase enzyme were followed for years without any adverse effects, there is no natural biologic model to show the safety of dutasteride.

Avodart has been approved for prostate enlargement in an older male population. It is not approved for hair loss and, in fact, the clinical trials for hair loss were discontinued, so there is no safety data for its use in younger patients. There is a greater incidence of sexual side effects with dutasteride compared to finasteride.

I hope you have found this information helpful. In any case, you should consult your physician before using Avodart. It may or may not be appropriate, depending on your medical situation, to use the drug to treat hair loss. Be sure to disclose to your physician any other drugs you might be taking before requesting a prescription for Avodart.

An enlarged prostate is a painful disorder seen in men as they grow older and many wonder if there is a possibility for doctors to shrink the prostate to bring about relief. The problems related to the enlarged prostate include frequent urination, urinary infections and stones in the bladder. These symptoms most often go unnoticed, mainly due to sheer ignorance or high tolerance for pain and discomfort. However, delaying the treatment of prostate diseases may seriously affect the treatment choices available and the possibility to full recover from them. Early detection and diagnosis by a doctor are critical to the recovery from prostate diseases. A doctor may have several treatment options to shrink the prostate gland. Some of them are described below. Can Medication Shrink The Prostate?

The first option usually suggested by doctors to shrink prostate is the use of drugs. Finasteride or Dutasteride are the drugs prescribed by doctors to help reduce hormone concentration in the body, if the prostate inflammation is detected at an early stage. These drugs help in controlling inflammation in the prostate, thereby reducing the size of the prostate. Alpha-blockers such as doxasozin or tamsulosin have been found to be helpful in the relaxation of prostate muscles thereby reducing the discomfort caused by the symptoms of an enlarged prostate such as frequent urination. To date, these measures have been found to be effective in the quest to shrink the prostate.

Can Surgery Shrink The Prostate?

In many cases when medications fail to shrink prostate the next option has to be surgery. There are surgical options which can be done on an outpatient basis. These surgical treatments include removal of the prostate tissues in the urethra. The apparatus that is used here is the Catheter which generates heat to expunge the infected prostate tissue in isolated areas.

If outpatient procedures do not work for some patients, then doctors opt for yet another measure to remove the excess prostate tissue through the transurethral resection. In this process an electrical loop is inserted into the urethra to dissect the inflamed and infected tissues on one hand and seal the blood vessels on the other to prevent bleeding. This process involves a short recovery time and has minimal side effects. The main side effect of this treatment is the problem of ejaculation into the bladder during sexual intercourse. Although it sounds very strange for this to happen, it is not as serious or harmful as previously thought.

Prostate Surgery Incontinence

Post prostate surgery incontinence is unfortunately a common side-effect after the surgical procedure. The lack of bladder control is known as incontinence. In this situation the person is unable to prevent leakage of urine out of their body. The most surprising fact is that even though it is common, only a few men come forward with this problem for a cure. This may lead to additional complications. Sometimes the leakage may occur at awkward times and places. Many men with this problem may lose sleep at night since they are under the fear of leaking urine while they are asleep.

The type of incontinence is not significant in itself. What matters most to sufferers is the kind of suffering and embarrassment that they face. Patients with prostate surgery incontinence have a greater relief as the situation can be cured over time. But in many of the cases involving prostate diseases although medical treatments are complete, the chances of recovery is just better but may not be complete. The key to a speedy recovery is early diagnosis and treatment. It is important for men to be alert to the various signs and symptoms. They should seek medical attention promptly when these symptoms are observed. If the diagnosis is delayed the chances of a cure are also likewise delayed.

Men suffering from prostate surgery incontinence can take comfort in the fact that full recovery is possible if the problem is detected early and treatment for the condition started promptly. Oftentimes, men are too embarrassed to report to their doctors of their predicament. They should be advised that what they are experiencing is common for most men who under prostate surgery.

Thus, it is advisable to consult a doctor or specialist before purchasing or implying a product for hair treatment. The basic objective of these products is to slow down the growth of DHT hormone in the body.

Some of most common and effective hair products for treatment are Rogaine, Advecia, Propecia, Dutasteride, Revivogen and DNC. Apart from the above products there are also many herbal and natural products for hair fall treatment, such as green tea, Ginkgo Biloba, He Shou Wu, Pygeum, Gotu Kola and more.

While Rogaine is a shampoo, Propecia is a tablet similarly each of these products is available in either a form of capsule or cream or shampoo or more. Containing valuable hormonal inhibitors/exhibitors and vitamins and minerals, this variety of hair products works towards stopping hair fall or hair loss and growing healthy hair follicles.

During the old days, practice of Androgen Deprivation Therapy for Prostate Cancer Treatment is what scares many men. Losing a part of your genitalia, for a man to lose ones faculty for sex is too much for a cure that’s percentage driven. The former practice, this Androgen Deprivation Therapy for Prostate Cancer Treatment is Orchiectomy or the surgical castration -a term that hardly requires definition. The science for this is that testosterone stimulates prostate cancer growth. Testosterone is the male androgen hormone essential for a boy’s development to manhood. It is responsible for many things characteristically man: baritone voice, deepening of chests, bulging of muscles, and growth of body hair among several things. And an enzyme that is secreted in the prostate gland converts this testosterone into a metabolite Dihydrotestosterone (abbreviated as DHT) which is a cancer stimulating cell.

And because the testicles produce the majority of the testosterone, the Androgen Deprivation Therapy for Prostate Cancer Treatment includes Orchiectomy or this surgical castration where the prostate cancer cells are deprived of testosterone thus, starving it to death. Of course, as I’ve mentioned it is percentage driven. Testosterone in majority is produces in the testicles, but other gonads do build testosterone, and one of them is the prostate itself.

Another method in castration is the Chemical Castration. It is done by making the pituitary gland over-stimulate the Leydig Cells, thus making the requirement for stimulation too high that it will have a reduced stimulated ability and wearing the cells out. Leydig Cells is primarily responsible for testosterone secretion. The effects of chemical castration include sexual dysfunction, among other things.

Today’s practice for Androgen Deprivation Therapy for Prostate Cancer Treatment is decidedly different, thank God. That means we men can keep what makes us men in the first place. The practice of today is blocking the switching of testosterone into DHT. By using enzymes like 5-AR inhibitor Finasteride or the more potent Dutasteride (Proscar and Avodart, respectively), the testosterone is prevented from turning into DHT. This is a more laudable solution to battling prostate cancer by Androgen Deprivation Therapy than chopping some part of your genitalia off.

Every physician differs in medical practice but that doesn’t mean you’d have to be the next castrated prostate cancer survivor. Try asking your doctor on the benefits of using anti androgen drugs or androgen receptor blockers for your Androgen Deprivation Therapy for prostate treatment. Believe me; you’d not want to have hot flushes and enlarging breast as a side effect to prostate cancer treatment.

First some interesting bits of trivia: the word alopecia originated from the Greek word meaning fox; the origin comes from the fact that the fox sheds its coat twice a year. And statistics show that most men have a 50% chance of experiencing hereditary hair loss by their 50th birthday .The typical average hair loss actually amounts to about 100 strands a day.

Some causes of hair loss include mycotic infections causing massive hair loss, hypothyroidism, especially thinning of the outer third of the eyebrows and some drugs or medications, which improves when you stop taking the medicine. Medications that can cause hair loss include blood thinners, gout medicines, chemotherapy drugs used for cancer, supplementing with too much vitamin A, birth control pills and antidepressants.

Wearing a hat generally should not cause baldness, though it’s a good idea to give your scalp a rest and let it breathe for several hours every day. Temporary loss of hair can occur in areas where sebaceous cysts are present for one to several weeks. Poor digestion, parasites and nutrient deficiencies such as iron or biotin deficiency shouldn’t be overlooked as possible causes also.

Now tumors and skin growths can also induce localized baldness. If the thyroid gland is overactive or underactive, hair may fall out so treating the underlying thyroid disease will help remedy this. And alopecia areata is an autoimmune disorder also known as “spot baldness” that can result in hair loss that ranges from just one area to every hair on the body.

Propecia (Finasteride) and Minoxidil (called Rogaine in the U.S and elsewhere known as Regaine) are drugs that have reportedly shown some success in partially reversing loss but one really has to consider the side effects. Propecia is available with a prescription only comes in pill form, is only for men, may take up to six months before you can tell if it is working and you have to keep taking it. Immunosuppressants applied to the scalp have been shown to temporarily reverse alopecia areata, though the side effects of some of these drugs make this type of therapy very questionable.

Surgery is another method but extreme method of reversing hair loss and baldness. Hair loss remedies like treatments with prescription drugs are long term commitments. Minoxidil is available without a prescription and is for topical application, but one needs to consider its side effects.

Hair loss treatments and remedies range widely in price from free to expensive. Regular aerobic exercise can help keep the hormone androgen levels naturally lower while maintaining overall health, lowering stress and increasing SHBG. Studies done on subjects of various ages suggest that weight training alone may increase testosterone in those studies where aerobic exercise only was compared to either weight training or a somewhat sedentary life.

Massage the scalp with slight pressure with the fingers daily. One patient reported that he had used coconut oil on his hair and scalp for about a year and during that time his hair became thicker and he had more of it on the top of his head where he had been receding a little bit. Coconut oil is good as a hair gel too. Make sure that you test remedies on a small area first and check with your hair loss doctor or skin doctor before trying any natural home remedy, especially if it includes any irritating ingredients.

One home remedy is to massage the scalp nightly with a mixture made of one part rosemary oil and two parts almond oil. Then there is the olive oil and rosemary remedy for hair loss - before bedtime use equal amounts of olive oil and oil of rosemary; combine them in a bottle, shake vigorously, massage into the scalp, put on a shower cap and shampoo in the morning. Saw Palmetto is an herbal DHT inhibitor often claimed to be cheaper and have far fewer side effects than finasteride and dutasteride.

Beta Sitosterol, which is a constituent of many seed oils, can help to treat BHP (benign prostatic hypertrophy) by lowering cholesterol however consuming large amounts to get at small quantities of beta sitosterol is likely to exacerbate male pattern baldness. Russian cure with honey and vodka remedy - combine one tablespoon honey with one jigger of vodka and the juice of a medium-size onion, then rub the mixture into the scalp every night, cover with a cap and shampoo in the morning.

The onion juice and honey remedy: prepare a hair-growing mixture by combining 1/4 cup of onion juice with one tablespoon of honey then massage the scalp with it every day. For something strange try the fingernail buffer three times a day or so, for about five minutes. Buff your right fingernails with the fingernails of your left hand; this is supposed to stop hair loss, encourage hair growth and prevent hair from graying. And polygonum multiflorum is a traditional Chinese cure. Whether or not the plant itself is useful, the general safety and quality control of herbs imported from China can be quite questionable.

If you have any form of hair loss that causes you concern, make an appointment with your doctor to discuss the treatment options available to you for your particular condition and research natural remedies. Treatment for alopecia can be slow and sometimes not very successful. The more hair that’s lost, the more you may have to work to get it back and in some cases may not be able to, but try as many natural non-invasive treatments and remedies as you possibly can. With extensive research, reading ratings and reviews and reading testimonials from real people, not paid actors, you may be able to find the right hair loss product, treatment or remedy that’ll work for you.
